Really, one can almost discard large parts of the history and what could be
done within the framework of what's there.
If they're really intent on moving forward, they need to implement a full
user management system from the ground up, rather than a couple of gross
hacks currently present that don't actually do much of anything useful.
Viewing key files in the raw wouldn't be so much a problem if people would
stop 777 and 666'ing their dirs and files, although it could be a problem
if someone has access to create a table that can system("sh") and go on
a hunting mission. For that matter, with raw file i/o, one can actually
do it entirely internally. You'd need an exclusionary rule table to list
wildcarded directories/files that simply can't be accessed via raw i/o.
fP has needed a full user management system since...boy, at least '93 when
I got into it--probably earlier. Now THAT would be a valuable addition
to the product for a future version. I think it's considerably more
upgrade-worthy than a spell checker.
But who knows... In 5.7, maybe y'all will get a matching thesaurus! :)
