And for some, features don't matter...

Interestingly, I was doing a framework demo for someone last night, showing
them how to do something in filePro. I wrote most of what they needed and
left the rest to them. But they wanted to know how my code worked, as they
needed to know for the future.

I started going through it line by line. Mind you, we're using 5.6.06 on
this system--brand new system. The developer's been doing filePro for
years and years and years.

I got to the point where I used open(), close(), and writeline(). He said
he'd never heard of those. Okay, not everyone uses them, so I suppose I
can let that one go.

However, when he asked if "declare global" was valid filePro syntax, I had
to check my ears. He had absolutely -no- clue that long variable names
have been in since 4.8, and he's never used them before now. Never even
seen them before, actually.

Which point just makes you wonder why people upgrade. In this case, I know
it's because it's a new system. In the past, however, I believe they were
an early adopter of 5.0.

How do you go three major versions without knowing that long variable names
even exist? But that curiosity aside, it makes one wonder about the
reasons one upgrades.

Apparently it's not always the features that sell new versions. At least
not the ones people expect to be hot selling points.
