Looking for some Linux advice

I'm setting up a new Linux/Samba server to replace our old Netware
server as a fileserver for FilePro. Since there is probably a few
centuries of Linux experience on this board I figured I would pick your
brains for some advice that might help shorten my climb up the Linux
learning curve.

I am setting up an older Proliant server box with CentOS 4. It took me
two days to get it all right, but I finally have all the HP drivers
loaded to give me full server management functionality. (The HP drivers
expect to see Red Hat and have to be tricked into seeing this instead of
CentOS and it seems that there is a difference between copying an
expanded tarball into a directory and letting it expand itself since the
drivers attempted to load up in a different order depending on which way
it was done...This was never mentioned anywhere I looked.)

Anyway, I'm looking for some suggestions and some advice:

1. What is a good package for modifying firewall access.
2. Should I bother with SELinux and what do I have to watch out for.
3. What do people suggest for a tape backup software. (I have a Sony
SDT-10000 20/40 and an HP 6-tape autoloader 20/40 available.)

Thanks,
Boaz
