I can understand wanting to move from an SCO Unix system, but would
recommend moving to Linux or FreeBSD as they're far more stable and secure
than the Microsoft Virus, Windows. The transition from SCO OpenServer to
Linux is pretty easy, and many on this list have made this transition over
the years. The current CUPS printing mechanism now supports the standard
SYSV printing mechanism, lp, lpstad, lpadmin, and company which I find far
easier to use than the earlier Berkeley lpr system.

We're now doing our new installs on CentOS, a free version of Red Hat
Enterprise Linux, having moved away from SuSE Linux Enterprise systems due
to lack of support from Novell/SuSE.

We have some applications running on CentOS 4.5 because 3rd party software
isn't supported or plain doesn't work on CentOS 5. These correspond to the
RHEL4.5 and RHEL5 respectively. CentOS 5.1 was release shortly after
RHEL5.1, but I'm waiting a bit before upgrading as there has been quite a
bit of traffic on the CentOS mailing list about issues that may cause
problems.
