Karen and I booked a suite at the Americana also... maybe the same year. I
thought it was best to do this since I had become President of the user's
group back then, and we could have a meeting or two in the suite. It was an
amazing place with two stories. On the first was the wet bar Tom mentions
along with a baby grand piano! On the second story was a loft bedroom. Both
overlooked the big street the hotel is on, and one of the days we were
there, in the street below was a big fetsival... complete with one of the
best rock/blues/country bands I had ever heard.. Delbert Mclinton... who at
that time was pretty unknown... at least to me. All in all it was a very
nice time. As for Bob Stockler, he and I and some others played a lot of
poker in the suite. At the very end of it all, Bob and I cut the deck for
high card... for $50. I won. I tried and tried not to take the money, but he
insisted, saying if he had won, he would have taken it from me. I wish I
could say I still had that bill, but it went long ago for a bottle of
Blanton's. :-)
