It's also a good way to set up a system with, say...patch update
announcements, security alerts, tip of the day, etc. I'd actually say one
for business-critical updates like patches and alterts, then a separate
feed for tip of the day, announcements of new products or resources, etc.
They're really two different "channels" IMNSHO.
The appeal of a fast-track to customers to get the info out in one
centralised place and "pushing" it because they just subscribe once is
nice. Then again, an email could be just as useful. But with email you
have to manage subscribers, email is sometimes just overlooked... If you
saw something on an official "emergency" feed you subscribed to, you
wouldn't overlook it for the S:N ratio.
Glad I'm not the only one that found it overwhelming to a degree. Do I get
my geek certification reinstated? :)
