OT: E-ChannelNews - Do We Really Need This?

Just wanted verification that I'm not wrong on this. I kept getting junk
email from E-Channell something or another. I never subscribed... it just
started coming. I wrote to every address I could think of at the place...
sales@, info@, root at ... bitching them out and telling them to take my g*d
d*mn name off their list... a guy writes back to tell me that it's easy to
unsubscribe, just scroll to the end of the message and clicke here and do
thus and such...

I write back to tell him that is stupid... and he writes back, and
finally... I'm kind of left with him thinking what they do is okay. What
they do is (by his note below) is send out an advance email saying they are
"going" to start sending a newsletter, and if you don't want it, you have to
do thus and such. I, of course, dump all email like this (as I'm sure we
all do). So, I start getting his junk/spam/unwanted-stuff. Shouldthis not
be illegal... don't spam laws (whatever and wherever the heck they are) cite
against this. I thought this sort of forced opt-in slamming onto lists was
not "allowed". If it isn't, it sure should be. This guy says all this is
niether here nor there. I think it is definitely "there"... and I don't
want to be "there". :-)

sir, I don't want to get into a back and forth, but an email was sent
about a week before the newsletters informing recipients of the service...
and giving a removal option before anything was sent. A week passed to
ensure that we gave everyone the opportunity to remove themselves before
we started the broadcasts... In any case, this is neither here nor
there... sorry to take your time.
