Dennis,
At the risk of incurring everyone's wrath... :-) I'm re-sending this note
Dan sent today (or yesterday). It has one of those nifty virtual business
card thingies as an attachment. Just open this and you'll have all Dan's
coordinates.

I have a way to resolve the problem nicely. Sorry for not responding
earlier but I've been traveling the past couple days. Fair warning, this
is a commercial product, not a freebie. Some of the list members have
been using it for quite a while now.

I created a perl utility a couple years ago which is available for
purchase at a very reasonable rate. I call it xlmaker and it creates
true blue xls files from textual data. It does use an additional
external file that provides format control information that allows you
to do a whole lot with the final spreadsheet. Some of the things it
supports are:

- Coloring specific cells
- Inserting formulas into the spreadsheet wherever you like
- Controlling the formatting of cells, this addresses your number format
issues, including the leading zero problem.
- Establishing freeze points that allow some range of cells to scroll
while others remain in place. Both horizontal and vertical frame
freezing are supported.
- Custom column widths for every column in the worksheet.
- Multiple worksheets with custom titles. Each worksheet has separate
format controls.

This does build upon the excellent Spreadsheet::WriteExcel package
mentioned in an earlier reply. I include with it documentation that
explains how to use it within FilePro. The documentation explains all of
the available features. I can provide documentation alone if you'd like
to review that before deciding.

Contact me if you'd rather not spend the time necessary to write and
debug this yourself.

Dan
