Indexing a file with 3,000,000 records FAST ?

May I offer my slant that is always way different than the results
listed here by the geniuses here on the list and I say that with upmost
respect. What you Gentlemen do and what I play with are not even on the
same planet, we just happen to use the same program.

I play with lotto numbers. At one time I had files with 10,757,536
records, indexed. What I did was used 11 files, 1 million in ten files
and the last had 757,536. Each file had it's own index. When I looked
for a number combination it went through a sifter then used the correct
index. Also if for any reason an index was corrupted I only lost a
small part compared to having just one index.

So my suggestion would be to break it down to a few indexes on the file,
use a sifter in the .prc to point in the correct direction and go. This
way a wreck won't take so long to repair.

Best Regards,
Mike McAvoy
