| hi experts
| problem: unable to add fields to a filepro file
| below are file listing before & after an attempt to add fields as
| suggested by Mark Fairlight. (see bottom )
| This is on a linux system - uname -a below:
| Linux ynotdemo 2.4.20-18.7smp #1 SMP Thu May 29 07:49:23 EDT 2003 i686
| unknown
| filepro version 5.0.14R4
| we run the program using the following script
| PFPROG=/appl
| PFDATA=/
| PFDIR=/appl/addison
| PFMENU=/appl/addison/AddisonMenu
| PFTMP=/appl/tmp
| export PFPROG PFDATA PFDIR PFMENU PFTMP
| p MENU1
|
| permission on /appl
| drwxrwxrwx 17 filepro filepro 4096 Jul 11 12:40 appl
| permissions on second directory /appl/addison
| drwxrwxrwx 4 filepro filepro 4096 Jan 25 18:20 addison
| permision on /appl/addison/filepro
| drwxrwxrwx 101 filepro filepro 4096 Jul 14 10:43 filepro
| permision on /appl/addison/filepro/stock <<== file we wish to change
| drwxrwxrwx 2 filepro filepro 8192 Jul 15 14:11 stock
|
| each time we try to add fields we can tell it fails because the records
| fail to count down. We then have to unlock the lockfile to try again.
|
| help would be appreciated
| thanks

Listing a ton of irrelevant files is annoying, Tony -- why clutter up the
landscape like that? Adding fields should affect nothing but the map file
and the key/data files.

Why the silly permissions? They do nothing for the operation of
filePro, and only serve to shine a highly pejorative light on your
system administrator.

You don't say what version of filePro you've got there, but under
5.6.03, I **can't even get into** "Define Files" to then attempt any
changes to the map, if I have files called keyjpradley.071506 and
datajpradley.071506.

Try pushing aside your data.addison.030794 and key.addison.030794
files.
