as one of those on the side of the fence of those who are desperate for 
scrollable fields to get more out of the 80x24 bounds - why do you say this?
I would not assume the engine triggers the scrolling mechanism unless
the field is longer than the alotted space - one character fields should
not be affected.  to have it occur for every field regardless of field
length would not be a good implementation IMO.
