Antiquated Software

First let me say that I'm relatively new to the list and I only program
for my own company.

We started using Filepro only because 16 years ago we needed both a new
system and a new CFO. The man we hired could do both, but did it with
Filepro, a program I had heard of only once before. A friend of mine
was programming in it together with another gentleman on the list, Joe
Chasan. The concern was who would be able to support the software
should we part company with the original programmer, but knowing that my
friend was knowledgeable and that he trusted someone else with the
knowledge led us to take the plunge.

As it happened I learned over time how to program Filepro until I was
able to get everything we need done. I'm now quite proficient in it
and, since I don't have any ax to grind (my job doesn't depend on
Filepro) I wanted to add my 2 cents worth. BTW, I work in a windows
environment and we are still on 4.8 as I don't yet see a need to upgrade
yet except to get some new features that I have not yet seen.

I think that Filepro is great for the speed with which you can implement
solutions. Most of these solutions get MOST jobs done remarkably well.
But there are areas where it falls behind.

It would be great to have the option of a larger screen or the option to
open and have some control over other windows as if they were POPUP windows.

I don't understand why if other DOS-based programs can take a mouse
input for locating the cursor on the screen Filepro can't do the same.

I would like to have the memo feature working as others describe it.
Without that it is not worth the bother.

Would it help if I could make things prettier? Not unless I could get
the additional functionality as well.
