Which pretty much proves your other point: what tool best serves your
needs *depends on what your needs are*.

A good corollary to this is the changes in the last 25 years in the
wireline phone and long distance network.  Most of these haven't been
all that noticeable to most people from an operational standpoint.

But most people aren't National Command Authority.

It used to be the case that the President could pick up a phone and
interrupt any phone call in the United States.  I assure you that it
isn't anymore.
