Subject: Talking databases

Hello all. Here's my situation: We have two databases, one real
and one is for testing purposes (although the two databases do run on the
same file server). Is it possible to pass information between the two in
real-time?
Now I know the perfect solution of the two databases being able to look up
information from each other in real-time is probably not an option.
Believe me, most guys my age have fantasies about being a rich
athlete/actor/musician with more adoring fans than one could handle, but not
me, I dream of an ODBC compliant filePro. So since I probably won't ever
get either of those dreams, are there any suggestions for another approach?
Anybody else ever done anything like this? I guess the easiest/only way I
can think of is to export the data from both databases and import them into
the opposite databases. This would have to be scheduled and wouldn't be
real-time but it is the best I can come up with. Any help/suggestions would
be appreciated.
Oh, by the way, we run filePro 5.0.14 on a novell server with lots of little
windows 2000/xp clients.

Upgrade to fpODBC

Create an odbc database by any method

Link both databases through the odbc database. Values will be passed from
one to the other.

These are probably other ways to do this using programming languages outside
fp.
