This mailing list and The FP Room are two different things, aren't they, JP.
The FP Room is "moderated"... yes, by me. You were in the room several times
this past week. Did you find it unpleasant? If you don't like it, don't come
back to it. You know why you were banned and should you choose to badmouth
anyone there again (me, included), you will be banned again. A huge
percentage of the mailing lists on the net *are* moderated, So it is with
this venue. I'm sorry that you have to adjust your behavior accordingly.
On this list, we choose to have it un-moderated. we get what we pay for, eh?
I have no other controls than to "tune-out" someone, delete their messages,
or just never show their messages in my mailbox. Everyone has these options.
I was very clear about the fact that I squelched out only two people on this
list. You felt the need to bring up The FP Room. Okay, let's discuss it,
shall we? Why do you suppose that it was only *you* during the past two and
1/4 years of non-stop 24 hour operation that got himself banned? I think
that is more to the point than why I choose to run a moderated filePro
experience on the net. So far there have been no complaints from over 150
users. Oh, except from Brian and Jose... neither of whom have ever been
disallowed from joining in the room conversations. They just want to make it
appear as if I have "banned" them because they "disagree" with me on so many
things. Pure (and usual) bullshit. No one besides you has ever been banned
from The FP room, including them. I may simply choose not to talk with them
if they appear in the room, that makes them mad. They are able to converse
with anyone else who will talk with them. They take their own chances just
like everyone else, including you, that there will be conversation that
interests them, and that people will enjoy their contributions. To date,
there has been nothing but 100% approval of the friendliness and great
utility of The FP Room, even Brian and Jose had visited without incident and
enjoyed the atmosphere and conversation. It is they who make their lives
what they are, not me.
The FP Room has been and is a great success. Everyone loves coming there for
filePro answers, talk about food, politics, operating systems, books,
music... etc. It is *always* a nice place to visit (when people are there),
and I'm sorry, I can't have remarks from you couch it in any other way. It
is a place that I simply will not allow to be nearly, utterly ruined, as
this list has been from time to time. And yes, if banning people who exhibit
undesirable behavior is required... in a heartbeat.
