What would I run IE7-BETA on? It won't run on either my OS X or
my Linux desktops. When I gave my wife a Mac Mini for her
birthday last September to replace her win98 box, it meant that I
no longer have to do anything with Windows. Now Carolyn doesn't
have to listen to me bitch and moan every time something wierd
happened on her machine (actually something wierd would have been
for it to behave nicely :-).

I've installed several of Fry's $180 Linux boxes where they're used
primarily like X-terminals to run accounting programs in xterms. We
install SuSE $CURRENT_VERSION on them, show people FireFox and Thunderbird,
and they're generally happy. I have some very non-techie friends who have
been running Linux desktops since StarOffice 5.x was available, and are
quite happy not to have to deal with the Windows virus. One of these
friends is very active in a political party, and deals with Word and Excell
attachments daily, using OpenOffice.org on her SuSE 9.3 Professional
system.
