When I print labels, I pass a tab delimited file to a perl script that then
does the formatting for the lables -- usually by generating input to
``groff -ms'' since the old ms macros have features for doing multi-column
easily.

Using an external script (a) makes the database programming trivial, and
(b) allows input from a wide variety of sources.
