Except it's not really illegal--it just produced unexpected results because
it was using a different name for the array than expected due to how it was
being edited.  The problem is that it -is- legal, technically.

Now whether or not ck.syn catching that is a good or bad thing is a good
question.  It imposes an artificial rule that's apparently not part of the
actual language.  It also would have helped John find his problem more
quickly.  I guess that's one I don't wanna pretend to have an answer to.
I'm just saying there are two sides to it.
