Thank you all, so far, for your suggestions. As I may, or may not have stated before, we do use Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition (7.60) here. I am aware of performance issues with Norton Antivirus, but I don't believe this is the issue, because it is running on both our test (the one with filePro 4.8) and production (with filePro 5.0), and the speed difference is night and day. Both machines, hardware wise, are almost identical HP servers. I will check the other start-up programs that "watch" everything we do, and see if there might be something there.

  I would agree with your assestment of Norton.  In the system I described before we also have Norton Corp. Edition running.  Although on some older versions of fp we had noticed a problem with fp & Norton.  But not now.
