If you're using a shell that supports aliases (bash, ksh, ...)

	alias ls='/bin/ls --color=none'

Personally I do everything in xterms with TERM=xterm.

That's a new one on me.  I've only been using ``vi(m)'' for 24
years, and still learn new things about it freqently.
