True, but then you lose the bolding for syntax checking on non-colour
terminals.  It can be dohe without colour.  Or with -limited- colour.  I
find the following in ~/.vimrc to be useful without being overkill:

color pablo

Not all dists may come with that colour scheme anymore, but 6.1 did.

Hell, there's one scheme that makes it look like WP 5.1 on LSD.
