| For years I've advocated that we should all get together and develop a
| good BASE accounting system, starting with a very solid general ledger
| package and good accounts payable and accounts receivable system. Then we
| can let people write flooring and other invoicing packages on top of that.
|
| Years ago, it wasn't feasible to get all of us developers together to
| discuss that or work on a single system. However, recent changes in
| technology, like John Esak's filePro room, are making it feasible to let us
| all work on a global project like that.
|
| As a matter of fact, if John will permit, I would be willing to meet
| with anybody who would like to discuss such a venture on the filePro room
| next week. How about 7:00 PM Central time?

There is already (or was) a good filePro BASE accounting system -
John Esak's NEX Accounting Programs - G/L, A/R, A/P and Payroll.

I installed it on a customer's system many years ago, and they're
still happily using it. They do business it three states, with
different sales taxes and different employee withholding taxes,
but it wasn't difficult to make John's programs conform. [1]

I happily used it myself until I sold my business and retired
(the buyer of my business didn't buy my computer, so it still
has John's NEX Accounting programs on it).

[1] - That customer was originally founded/owned by my very best
friend, who was very picky, and I fought off helping him
computerize his business for a long time (I didn't want
to end a beautiful friendship). I finally gave up and,
with the great help of Tom Parsons, wrote him the filePro
programs to do what he wanted, and installed Esak's NEX
Accounting Programs. He was as happy as a lark.

Unfortunately, a year or so ago he fell down some steps
in his home and landed on his head and later died, and
his dislectic son (who considers himself a computer expert)
took over the business. Good for me, in that I've had a
lot of billable hours fixing things son screwed up.

But that was my last filePro client and perhaps it's
gone (good ridance) because I can no longer SSH to that
site for the last month or so.
