Heck, ext2 (read: decade+ old technology) never had more than 3.74%
fragmentation on any filesystem I ever saw. It was self-defragmenting. If
an fs can't manage to get something right that was done in '94, there's an
issue. Remarkably stable, too--only time I ever lost data on ext2 was with
actual hardware failures. For a 1994 fs, it was one of the best.
