That is because you are looking at fP Tech's help
files, and not my version (which contains several examples
of actual code to more clearly explain how to use each
command and function in processing). My version also has
sections on environmental variables, command line flags,
show codes, key codes and a whole ton of stuff that every
filePro programmer should know about. As a bonus, there are
"see also"s almost everywhere so you can quickly find
related commands/functions that can help you get your
code working more quickly.

BTW, I wrote the fP Tech on-line help some 10 years
ago. At the time, the company also gave you a printed
manual. The on-line help was written to be a short list
of stuff to jog your memory and if you needed details,
you consulted the printed manual. Since I left the
company, a few other people have updated the files to
cover new features, but there is no printed manual anymore,
nor has there been a printed quick reference guide for
over 12 years. Rather than complain about this sad state
of affairs, I wrote my own improved on-line Help Files
from scratch and printed Quick Reference Guide.

You can order your own copy at:

I am working on an upgrade for filePro v5.6, and when it
is ready, you can get the new version at a discount.
(Once I get a bit closer to done, I'll post the details).

It is a handy bit of code and the best deal you are
going to find in a long time for the bargain-basement price
of only $10.
