The ruling didn't ignore it... there are exceptions built into the
DMCA, and they lost based on that exception.

SCC argued in its defense that it had used reverse-engineering
to allow interoperability between devices, something that is
allowed as an exception in the DMCA.
Note that this is not the same "SCC" we all know and love. :-)
