OT: broken/useless ansi - console driver??

Anything that gives you a non-console session is under control of the
vendor who wrote the client software. The O/S vendor has nothing to
do with how the client vendor has written the terminal emulation.
With the possible exception of the X Terminal, SCO has nothing to do
with the emulation of the others, and couldn't change their behavior
even if they wanted to. (Short of supplying broken termcap/terminfo
files, that is.)
Now, whether or not the console's change is good or bad is another
issue, and can be argued either way.
