Dunno. I'd hazard a guess and say that a 1 GHz machine cannot provide
granularity beyond a microsecond since the difference between two
samples will always be greater or equal to 1 microsecond, so it is
just rounding them off. In that vein you would need a 1 THz CPU to get
nanosecond granularity.
