There is a difference between screwing people as a business
and screwing people over as part of doing business.
In the first case, I don't have a problem with consenting,
legal adults doing whatever, in private, in exchange for
money. While it isn't something that I would recommend at
the high school job fair, criminalizing it isn't protecting
anyone from anything anymore than banning booze did during
Prohibition.
In the second case, we have one group ripping customers off
when the customer has no real options. i.e. the gas station
owners have to immediately pay more for gasonline the
moment anything disrupts (or MAY disrupt) any part of the
journey from oil well to delivery truck, but this
inflated gasoline price comes down very, very slowly.
Big Oil owns (or has unbreakable contracts) for everything
from the wells, ships, refineries and delivery trucks.
The oil companies SHOULD make a profit, but they
shouldn't take every real and imagined problem and
turn it into an excuse to zap it to their distributors
and end consumers.
