Hello,
I'm sending this out on behalf of my cousin, who owns a small business in
Wyckoff, New Jersey. It relies on filePro under SCO OpenServer 5.5, with
several point-of-sale terminals and the usual back office stuff.
She is looking for someone to do the accounting chores of entering P.O.'s,
A/P Invoices, etc. Therefore she is looking for someone who basically knows
filePro already and has some reasonable accounting skills (methodical,
careful, able to solve usual problems of data entry and doing reports.) So,
she would be looking for someone who has run filePro in another situation,
and/or has a little accounting background... or vice versa, has a little
accounting background and can be taught filePro... which we all know is a
pretty easy thing to do. (especially now that there is the fantastic filePro
Survivor Series "Runtime CD" available from someone we all know and love...
:-)
Okay, enough fooling around. This position could be part time, say 3 days a
week, or possibly even full-time if the fit is right. Either mode might also
include some other job duties like helping entering Point-Of-Sale invoices
at the counter (also filePro of course).
If you have any filePro programming ability or experience... this would just
be fantastic and a pure plus... though no programming is actually part of
this job... (unless, of course, you can make it part... She has the full
FPSS series available for you to learn filePro programming from scratch,
too, should this be a desirable option for you.) Besides, some filePro
experience, a good working knowledge of standard computer programs like Word
and Excel would be very helpful.
Of course, I realize this is mostly a developer forum, but maybe you know of
one of your clients in the Northern NJ (Bergen County) area that has
downsized recently, or changed to some new system and let go filePro clerks
or whatever. Just a reasonable thing to ask in this place I hope. I know
some really old names that used to work at Small in NYC who lived in NJ
right near this place, but in the past 20 years, I'm sure they have moved,
gotten married and changed names, forgotten filePro, etc. Who knows, maybe
one or two of them is now 20 years older, kids are grown, and wants to get
back into the job market. Having a skill like filePro either running it or
writing it might not come to their mind as valuable, but in this instance,
it certainly is. So, any suggestions, make them, or forward the following
information to anyone you might know who would be interested.
Send inquiries to msjoan2001 at aol.com, or call (201) 891-3600 and ask for
Joan, regarding the filePro job offer.
(This is not a programming job... so don't expect that kind of a
salary/compensation. This is simple bookkeeping and data-entry... also,
sales position/retail should this be something you do well. (Lighting,
accessories, home decorating related - for home-owners and builders.)
