I don't see any way to change it, either.  Perhaps it's a new "feature"
of 0.58 to send ^[[3~ ?

Under terminal/keyboard, I have:

    Backspace: Ctrl-H
    Home/End: standard
    Function keys: SCO
    Cursor keys: normal
    Numeric keypad: normal

Okay, a quick test shows "function keys: ESC[n~" causes Del to send the
"^[[3~" sequence.
