Oh, one other thing. The file type detection DOES NOT use the file 
extension. That's a poor
hack from the world of Windows. Check out the 'file' command on Linux. 
The algorithm that it
uses is what the print filter uses. It actually reads the beginning data 
in a file to determine what
type of file it is. Check out the file man page if you want more detail.
