| Never heard of a Kentucky cardinal?
|
| Is it Blue and White rather than red?

The Kentucky Cardinal is a red colored member of the finch family
that doesn't migrate. The male is crested and is bright red, while
the female is smaller, has no crest and is a duller red. Common
knowledge says that they mate for life (but rumor has it that they
both sneak and play around a little).
The image used by the University of Louisville athletic teams is
a Kentucky Cardinal, and they're called the Cardinals. I'm watching
their basketball team play Washington in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen as
I type this.
The University of Kentucky. playing in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen tomorrow
night, has the colors of blue and white but no connection to the blue
jay or blue bird - they're known as The Cats.
