No, no. I didn't mean to say it that way. I pair PUTENV and GETENV all the
time when I'm talking about the functions because a high percentage of the
time you would use PUTENV... GETENV comes into play. But no, certainly you
can affect your current environment without having to retrieve the value
within the processing table. Ken's example of TEXTNORMAL being required
immediately and therefore "encountered" once by filePro... means you could
not affect this value, but you could apparently change ERRORNORMAL with
PUTENV and then hit some ERRORBOX subsequently, and the change from default
would be seen.
Actually, I think Ken's explanation is invaluable to understanding PUTENV
and the "current" process. But since PUTENV is more prevalently used to
affect an exported environment that might be used by SYSTEM and some other
table's use with GETENV... and that is why I will probably still bind them
together in any discussion.
