Quick story on topic.

I was selling systems for an a VAR with an Apparel system.

Called a manufacturer and spoke to the lady president. She advised me that she
was having her son, who was newly graduated from a prestigious school with a
degree in computer science, write her system. He had worked for her and was
"familiar" with how the business operated.

I politely said I would call back in 6 months to see how he was doing.

I called back, she told me her son had written a lot of code, had nice screens
but nothing worked. She fired him and asked me to set up a demonstration of our
software.

She asked me why her son couldn't make the system work, I told her he needed to
get a job with a company, at the entry level, so he could learn his craft.

As the saying used to go (in ancient times) - that degree and 15 cents will get
you on the NY subway.
