Butch: (original thread at another location; original post unavailable
at this time)

My client prints approximately 20,000 pharmacy prescription labels to 16
different Datamax I-4308 & one I-4206 printer daily. My scenario is
slightly different because I am printing from WIN2000 &XP clients and
WIN2000 Advanced Server. I used Bob Rasmussen's Print Wizard program
and designed about 12 different prescription label formats within a
couple days. Bob even added several features (rotated text & rotated
barcodes) that I needed for my application. I selected his method
instead of doing it directly from fp because as long as the printer had
a Windows printer driver I knew I could print to it w/o any changes in
my code. I have tested this feature on a Zebra printer (model ?) and
the label printing was fine; however we found speed of the Datamax to be
superior. We have about a one second delay with the Datamax to begin
printing, with the Zebra it was 8-12 seconds. Most likely this was
because the Datamax I-series comes standard with 8 MB RAM and the Zebra
came stock with 2 MB. Obviously the Zebra can be ordered with
additional RAM, however, that drove the price above the Datamax so we
returned it. I believe you could still use Print Wizard if you set up
the Datamax on a Windows client and printed to it locally from the *nix
server. Bob is always available for support questions as well and he
monitors this list. Contact him at ras at anzio.com or view specifics
about Print Wizard at
www.anzio.com. End of unpaid testimonial.
