Excellent question George... But I almost didn't see it because somehwo it
was indented with a > as if it was part of previous content... ????
Anyway, I ran the report as above without the WRITE on the auto table... and
BANG! field 1 on every record is changed to "14".

What this seems/appears to say is that any assignments made on the AUTOMATIC
table are written and stored to the file during *report. Certainly does not
work this way in *clerk.

Ken? Is this part of what you were talking about where the automatic table
_does_ lock the record... I can't find that response. In any case, what's up
with the  -fp ""  Does it run any true OUTPUT table? No, right?  So, is it
the AUTOMATIC which is doing the WRITE as it appears to be? (Well, not a
specific WRITE since I removed that as George suggested and it _still_
stores the assignment.
