If the machine falls over dead they really will have a
backup/failover system. With companies that large that is in
place. If the machine dies an automatic rewrite of the MAC
on the standby machine takes care of that.

I'll buy that part more than I would 'the machine falls over dead'
Even DNS won't cure that.
