I started reading this thread late, so pardon me if I restate something.
(BTW, it would be useful to change the subject line when the thread drifts
significantly, so others would know whether it would be of interest. I
have done so here.)
There is a WORLD of difference between an ftpd and an sftp daemon,
although they can accomplish much the same thing. The similarity of their
names is something of a misnomer. The sftp protocol was basically started
from scratch. That can be good and bad, as is the case when you start over
on anything.
One area that has come up with a customer of ours is navigational
restriction. The OpenSSH sftp daemon does not seem to offer any
restrictions about CD-ing around on the server, where ftpd often does.
We're trying to figure out if we can do that with aliases.
