: OK. Just looked up specs on that. Since it's DLT based
: what kind of errors are you getting?
:
: For the amount of data I can see that it's a bit small, and also
: a bit slow for the amount - it shows 12MB min. Such things
: as the AIT-3 run from about 40-110MB min depending on compression
: factors. Current models are about 200GB per tape - next generation
: will be 500GB native, 1TB compressed - but the last time I saw
: those were predicted to be at $5K per drive.

Perhaps an injustice to AIT-3 here.
It happens we're testing AIT-3 and AIT-4 here for various reasons
today. Here area couple of Backup Summaries of interest, both from
the same system.

AIT-3 (100GB Native Capacity, ~260GB compressed) (~$1,800)
 Date                   = Fri Jan 21 13:41:45 2005
 Files Encountered      = 102266
 Total Data             = 18.84GB
 Data Written           = 18.90GB
 Elapsed Time           = 00:31:25
 Data Transfer Speed    = 37.048 GB/hr
                        = 632.304 MB/min
                        = 11050322 bytes/sec

AIT-4 (200GB Native Capacity, ~520GB compressed) (~$3,000)
 Date                   = Thu Jan 20 23:17:41 2005
 Files Encountered      = 102264
 Total Data             = 18.82GB
 Data Written           = 18.89GB
 Elapsed Time           = 00:16:29
 Data Transfer Speed    = 75.545 GB/hr
                        = 1289.362 MB/min
                        = 22533239 bytes/sec

The point is, modern tape drives can be VERY fast.
Ultrium/LTO, AIT, VXA all have nice characteristics.

Another interesting set of drives is the new AIT "Turbo" series.
Top-of-the-line AIT2 Turbo is very fast, 80/204GB, has cheaper media
(no more internal memory chips in the media) and is ~$1,200 street price.

I could probably grab the AIT2 Turbo drive and stuff it onto this
system if someone wanted a baseline comparison.
