One of the first mainframes I used, the Burroughs B-5500, frequently forked
processes, and the master controller was called the ``motherforker''.
While reading Burroughs MCP (Master Control Program) sources, preparing to
patch it to fix RJE spooling problems, I ran across comments such as
``shove it up the stack and go!''.
One of the things I found interesting reading the MCP code was that it
appeared that there were about six different coders, identifiable by their
coding style and comments. Perhaps the small number of coders was one of
the main reasons that MCP was as well designed and efficient as it was.
