You'll never BELIEVE what Kenneth Brody said here...:

That's -precisely- the use for which I first looked into this. Then I
figured, "Why do it by half-measures?"

I got sick of my page saying "within 72hrs" (which is really a
misnomer--that's if I'm like dying in the hospital or something...it's
usually on the order of 20min if I'm conscious, or 8hrs if I just went to
bed) for delivery of access information. I got sick of doing the whole lot
manually as well, since I track my licenses and customers in a database as
well. Bleah. I don't mind working, but it should just be automated,
period. It's a far better customer experience.

This -will- make that whole lot entirely feasible and quite simple.
You'll be able to let your software see the payment details immediately.
"Business rules" like account signups/generation can be handled ahead of
time, or after the fact--there are 30 ways to skin a cat with PayPal.
Modifying of files like .htaccess is also a "business rule" sort of thing,
but when the integrating software lets you kick off your business rules
processing, you can do whatever you like on-the-fly. By the time they get
done reading the receipt page, it's already set, as it will have been
imported and processed immediately with no operator intervention. Might be
a few seconds slower on a really bogged system, I suppose, but I've allowed
for things that will make it as optimal as possible.

That automation's the bit I'm looking forward to myself. It'll be nice in
any environment.
