Hi,

On Wednesday afternoon, or a little later, I rei-instituted spam assassin on
my BSD mail server. The next few days I got almost no spam mail! Heck, I
got almost no mail at all. In fact, I was going around complaining to Rick
and everyone that I wasn't getting much mail and spam assasssin must be
eating more than I wanted. Rick sent me a couple of pieces of mail and when
I swore I didn't get them, we did a quick test. I got the test mail, bang,
right into my inbox. Hours went by. still no other mail... then I ask Jim
Asman to send me some mail. Bang! I get it almost immediately. Man, this
spam assaassin is working _really_ good... (or is it??) I was really
frustrated for most of Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tony (in OZ) send me a
test mail pleas... hmmm, never get it. but that could always be attributed
to the slow packet carrying dolphins. :-) Still not seeing what is wrong if
anything. Fairlite comes in the Room and says the list has gottne all this
mail... I haven't seen any of it! "Rick, send me another test message,
meanwhile I'll send one from my system in PA..." BANG! BANG! Both tests
appear in seconds.. now I'm really lost. Go out, eat dinner... another day
spent wondering why... Finally, Rick calls. "I know what's wrong with your
email." "You do?? What?????" "I bet you have another mail session open
somewhere and it is popping the mailbox every 5 or 10 minutes." I told him
not possible, but could he check my machine in PA. He logs in and lo and
behold there is Outlook in the task bar working away. I had called my wife
last Wednesday sometime to have her read me a phone number out of an old
archived email message, and asked her to close the program down. Instead of
"closing" it, she "minimized" it like she does her own email on her box.
Yikes! for days, I see no email because every 5 minutes its being popped
down there. So, I had Rick gather all the inbox mail and forward it to me.
Told him to leave all the other user group mail in its folders and I'll get
to it sometime... if there were any messages from filePro listers you sent
me expecting replies over the past few days... you may get one next week
sometime when I get back to PA. Otherwise, I'll probably jus write all that
stuff off as outdated, lost and forgotten. Sorry.

John

P.S. Yes, I know I can run an Exchange Server and have multitple
simultaneous mail sessions for the same user... and things will update
automatically, but their are other drawbacks to that route for us. I'll just
be more careful in the future and tell my wife to CLOSE the application...
not just minimize it. :-)
