As John Esak was scratching "For a good prime call

The 1720 is not that expensive going for under #1000, however our
7120 was quite expensive - listed at about $17K but we got a deal
on got it for about $9. Are you sure you didn't get the digits
reversed?
It started getting strange earlier this year in our 1720 and it
stopped. A reboot cured it but a month later it fell over
again and on a restart it would run for about 30 minutes
There are some known vulnerabilities in the Cisco IOS so that you
need to have an upgrade. And there were many people attacking them.
When we had our problem I had a FreeBSD machine with another NIC
and configured that as a router.
Replaced that with a Foundry Networks device. New IOS in the 7120
fixed the problem and it will be sold off and we'll stick with
the Foundry products - as they are in many instances faster than
the Cisco. With the added plus is they are a router
and integrated L3 type switch.
The IOS upgrade is free to fix the bug/vulnerability - one of the
few things you don't have to have a support contract for.
