I certainly agree and have complained about this for decades.  I have 
written over many selection tables and continue to do so too often myself.

If those programmers at filePro actually wrote code for a living, they 
would have been annoyed enough to at least add a "File exists save 
anyway option?" to the S-Save for selections.

That would be enough to save me a lot of grief.
