BEEP has always worked for me, whether on 95, 98, Me, 2000, or XP. The
only systems I've seen where it doesn't work are those where someone has
explicitly told the O/S not to beep.

The old DOS version of filePro beeps by sending a control-G to stdout.
(And this still works when running an old DOS version of filePro under
XP.)

The Windows version of filePro beeps by using the Windows API function
MessageBeep() telling it to use the default sound.

Actually, a quick check of the history files shows that early 5.0
native Windows versions didn't beep on some Me and 2000 systems, and
that's when the change to MessageBeep was made. However, that change
was made over 3-1/2 years ago.
