No, no, I did not write Scripsit, a guy named Kevin Vale wrote
Scripsit.(mostly). I *bought* the source code and rights to Scripsit from
Tandy and ported it to 286 Xenix. We also gave it a multi-user spooler on
Unix (it was a single printer on Xenix, can you believe it?) My company did
the work, I organized it. Perhaps, this explains why it represents the
single biggest loss of money in my life. No big deal. :-) (Actually, it was
that a couple programmers in my employ could not get the code out quick
enough... after dicking around with it for nearly a year and a half...
WordPerfect released *their* product about a week before our release. We
sold a respectable number of copies... but at the time, saying you had a
word processor better than WordPerfect was like saying you could build a car
better than Ford (from your garage...). We kind of got killed. To near the
end, I hired Mr. Vale himself. Should have done that about a year earlier, I
truly believe the company would be around today had I had that much
foresight. Some very bad choices in personnell and strategy. Still, maybe
someday I will GPL it all... nah... probably not. Other things, maybe, but
not that.
