Interesting question.  I mean, I don't have an answer, up front I admit
that.  It's just that, having heard the question, it brings to mind other
applications and the knowledge that to access a modem, for instance, you
had to write a TAPI layer as far as I know.  I wonder if they did one, or
if it's a misconception I hold from how other applications have acted in
the past.

Be interesting to see the answer.
