Subject: Extending INPUT POPUP past end of line
I am writing code that checks the input of a field @wlf38. If what is
expected in field 38 is not present I am looking for input from the
operator. There are not enough spaces on the INPUT POPUP line for me to fit
my statement and request a response.
Is there a way to extend past the 120 correctors allowed on a line and
finish on the next line of the processing table. Or should I be looking at a
different command like LISTBOX to do the job?
Thanks
Rich Tartaglia
Rich,
First, in case no one has warned you... this forum (at least 98% of it)
frowns on html postings. So much so, that those people (the 98%) will
probably not even take the time to read your questions... and I can almost
guarantee none of them will take the time to answer... if they *did* take
the time to read the question. It's just a bias toward plain text and lots
of different Unix mail programs that can not deal with html. I don't have
this problem or any feelings one way or the other on the topic... and I
don't mind converting your message to plain text to answer it as well... so
as not to compound their frustration. But, consider posting in plain text
next time and you'll get LOTS more responses.
Meanwhile, I noticed you are thinking about putting out one of your in-house
programs. Not too much comment on that from me, other than the more the
merrier. I would try and make the product as professional and sophisticated
as possible, though, just so you have the highest customer satisfaction once
you do release it.
In that regard, I want to suggest that you take a look at one of _my_
products. It is a comprehensive set of video training CD's for filePro. They
go right through to fully advanced concepts and techniques... and I think
this package would be very beneficial to you. I know many will read this as
a plug... well, of course, they are right... but none the less, I am
absolutely certain this product would make you far more capable to put out a
good filePro product yourself.
For example, your question here about not enough character space for an
INPUT POPUP. This would not be a problem for you if you had a more complete
knowledge of the filePro tool set. Let me not try and answer your question
specifically in this message. Instead, please go to the following link:
www.valar.com/training
and on the page directly after this link, you will see another link for
"Description & Samples" for the Programming set. Click on the "Intermediate"
sample. It will show you a very specific and thorough answer to your
question (with sample code and runtime test...). A very elegant and yet
simple way to overcome this problem you bring up. I think you'll find the
movie informative, and complete. In a couple minutes you will see an
excellent answer to your question... and learn about another function which
will serve you very well in your ongoing filePro development tasks.
Check out the sample... yes, I would love you to buy the product, but for
what it's worth, I also would like to see you get the benefits it
provides... in this case, the sample provided should do that very nicely.
