They are coming out of the woodwork...

Hello all,
Well, as many of you know, I've sent out a mailing to old Guru Magazine
subscribers regarding the filePro Survivor Series CD's. Boy, what a
response. Lots of people are calling to order the things by phone. I ask
why they just didn't order it on the net, and they have mostly said... we
just wanted to talk to someone whose mentioned filePro on the web! A whole
bunch of people I haven't heard from in years and years are still using
filePro. A couple have been pretty funny.
In fact, one guy had me in stitches. For a while, I really thought he was a
"put on" or "send up" of some kind... with a tape recorder going in the
background... :-) But he wasn't! A little snippet of the conversation as
best as I can remember... Please attach about a 75 year old voice to his
side...
"Hey, who is this?"
"Hello, you've reached the Valar Group, my name is John, how can I help
you?"
"Is this 570-364-2444??"
"No, it's (570) 384-2444."
"Oh, that's right... that's right. ARE YOU FILEPRO??"
"Well, no, we are not filePro or FP Technologies, this is The Valar Group."
"Oh, yeah, that's it... we'll will this work on my computer?"
"Will what work?"
"The filePro... I've been using it for years. Will it work on my new XP Home
Professional computer?"
"I don't understand."
"These movies will they work with my filePro... I've been using it for
years. Does it work on XP Home Professional?"
"Oh, well, those are two different type systems, but it will work on
either... if you mean filePro... same for the Survivor movies."
"What do I have to get to make it work on this thing?"
"If you mean the CD movies, they will work on any computer, it doesn't
matter what filePro you have. What version *do* you have?"
"I don't rightly know... it's old... but I've just had two or three
upgrades."
"Oh, that's good. In any case, I can tell you that the movies are mostly
based on the latest 5.0 version of filePro, but most of the stuff on them
will relate to all filePro versions."
"Ok, but I'll have to call this other company right? What's their name?"
"I think you mean FP Technologies. They make filePro and can get you an
upgrade."
"What is the latest version?"
"It's 5.0.14."
"Huh? "Is it 5 or 14 then? Which one do I need?"
"No, no, it's 5.0.14"
"Oh, I see I'll call them and get that working. Can I still get these
movies."
"Sure, anytime."
"Well this is just great... I've been using filePro for years you know."
Around now, I started talking a lot louder so he could hear me better, and
we had a nice little talk. Until that point, I thought he was putting me on
the whole time! He started with filePro over 20 years ago and still uses an
application written in it for himself, but he wanted to learn how to write
it himself. All he did was use it as it was... and so forth. A very nice
man, actually... turned out to be from the frozen wasteland of Minnesota! We
got FP Tech and Valar Group all straightened out, and I gave him (800)
847-4740 for FP Technologies, so he could call and get the latest upgrade.
He then almost immediately hung up from me, forgetting to purchase the CD's
:-) and telling me "I'm going to call FP Technologies and order those movies
right now... maybe I'll upgrade it to my XP Home Professional, soon, too...
be talking to you... <click> :-)
Then he was gone. :-) I couldn't stop laughing, but I immediately called
Susan at FP Tech and said, "Boy, are you going to get a phone call any
minute now. :-) You won't understand a thing this guy says, but help him get
the latest copy of FP. Then, when you stop laughing... send me an email to
let me know he called." :-) She hasn't called yet. Maybe he forgot the
number? :-) Or, at this moment, he is buying Oracle 2009 from a telemarketer
who sells subscriptions to Amnesty International. :-)
Other people around the country are popping in the room brand new... guess
they are seeing the link on the valar.com home page. Most people really do
sound like they've been stranded on that desert island. :-) There hungry for
news about filePro and other people using it. This has been the gist of most
actual phone calls. Thought you would all like to know this... by the way
when they call, I give them the address of this forum sign-up page. Maybe
we'll see some of this "new????" blood in here. However, my guess is they
will gravitate toward The FP Room since it is only a click away for them,
rather than do the email thing.
