I don't want this to start a big thread... flame war.... anything really....
but I HAVE to say this. so, I'm going to rant for a moment...
The random stuff which is put at the head of many people's messages quoting
the who-from and date-thing... is and always has been the most offensively
stupid thing I think has happened to this list (and other lists). It is
purely idiotic and often annoying... No, make that always annoying. It
adds nothing, and actually sometimes is quite ridiculous or completely
inappropriate. I have never mentioned this before, but now is as good a
time as any. I don't expect anyone to change their use of this "thing"....
but it annoys me, always has and always will. Of course, that probably
would make some people happy. :-) And, not for nothing... but if you're
going to use a mechanism as dumb as this.... at least try to find a list of
things that is long enough not to be so repetitve.ve I mean the people
who use it, have the same r remarks coming up over and over again. If the
object is to put something random at the head of each of your messages, then
for God's sake get a random generator that works a little better than
the one used by this silly program. It appears that you have about a dozen
"sayings" and that's it. Yeck! It actually makes those who use it look
quite stilted. Almost like saying "I can't think up anything cute to say
myself, so I'll have this broken, badly random generated, saying pop up
instead on each of my messages.... yeck.
I started using "fortune" and different variations of it in motd things back
in the 80's, and quickly gave it up for the same reasons I don't like this
garbage at the head of messages I want to read. Same junk all the time,
same lack of creativity, same detraction from the imprt of what follows. My
suggestion, Get a life, get a brain, get off this stupid "thing". It makes
you look like a one-trick pony.
